2013 GSM 'Mathieu'Axiom
Axiom Wines is the creation of husband and wife team Stephen and Cathy Clarke that is run through their company TWM Wine Consultancy. Both widely travelled and passionate advocates for great wines, this dynamic pair formed TWM over 20 years ago while living in the UK. The aim of their consultancy business is to help wineries produce wines of consistent quality and turn their focus towards producing modern wine styles that are suitable to the current markets. Returning to Australia in 2000, winemaker Stephen Clarke took up the post of senior winemaker and lecturer at the University of Adelaide and while he still offers his expertise to wineries across the globe, Stephen now concentrates more heavily on his own brand, Axiom Wines.
Deep earthen with brick red hues, the Shiraz batches matured in 2 year old French and American oak were selected for their spice, character and sweet tannin profiles. The Grenache and Mourvedre were matured in large older French and American oak puncheons. The composition of the wine is Grenache 50%, Shiraz 45% and Mourvedre 5%. Axiom GSM is typical of the characterful wine style made when blending these premium grape varieties.
A vibrant bouquet of black fruits with undertones of dark chocolate. The palate is medium bodied, with juicy flavours of blackberry and cassis supported by soft round tannins leading to a persistent finish.
