2018 OPV Shiraz
Chateau PatoAlways a classic Hunter “Burgundy style”, the 2017 OPV must surely be the best we’ve tasted since 2011. Elegant and open with red, blue and black fruits, five spice, violets, vanilla, campfire and autumnal notes. Tannins are fine and expansive, coupling with ripe acidity that really drives the flavour along. Beautifully weighted, drinks like a claret, effortless, but with Burgundy sensuality. Integrated and harmonious, this will drink gorgeously for at least 2 decades and then some.
Produced from the Maluna Vineyard planted in 1968, with soils of dark brown loams over lighter clays with decayed limestone. High percentage of whole bunch used during fermentation, 14 months maturation in 300 and 500 litre barrels before bottling in June 2019.
